Have a Little Faith When Selling Your Home
Today, home sellers continue the tradition of burying St. Joseph. Except now he can be ordered on the Internet.
For $9.95, sellers can order a St. Joseph Statue Home Sales Kit on StJosephStatue.com. The kit comes with a 4-inch tall statue of the saint, a plastic burial bag and an instructional booklet. Sellers are instructed to bury the statue upside down in their front yards, usually near the For Sale sign.
Real estate agents and sellers alike have mixed opinions on this selling tactic, but the Web site contains hundreds of testimonials from customers who swear that this act of faith helped them sell their homes.
The tradition doesn’t appear to be going away either -- sales of the kit on have doubled every year since 2004, and St. Joseph statues are flying off the shelves at religious stores across the country.
Many sellers forget or are unaware of an important step of the St. Joseph tradition: After your home sells, you should dig up the statue and put it in a place of importance in your new home. If the saint really helped you get a sale, it’s the least you can do.
