Living in a Piedmont Park apartment can be one of the best living experiences in Midtown Atlanta. Not only do you have access to year-round events such as the Piedmont arts Festival, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, a fantastic farmer's market and the Dogwood Festival, but it's also one heck of a huge yard. And, you can count your neighbors as the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and the posh and historic Piedmont Driving Club.

The real estate along 10th Street, which is south of the park, consists mainly of single-family homes, though there is a Post property called Post Parkside at the far edge of the park. It has one- and two-bedroom loft-style apartments with hardwood floors; some apartments have views of the park. If you are planning on bringing a four-legged friend, read the pet policy carefully.

Venturing south of 10th Street onto streets such as Myrtle, Argonne and Charles Allen, you'll encounter an incredible collection of charming Victorian-style houses and if you get lucky, one might be for rent. Over on Piedmont Road to the west of Piedmont Park you'll find many condos, some of them with a rich Atlanta history and a few apartment homes. Located on 13th Street at Piedmont Road are Parc Vue condos with rents that start at about $1,200 a month. While the decor is somewhat dated, you are probably not going to find a better deal in this area.

A little higher up the food chain and just a block over at 14th Street are the Mayfair Tower Condominiums. The 30-story building has about 320 units and is just one block from Piedmont Park. Residents enjoy a 24-hour concierge, underground parking, a small garden and common area and a large swimming pool. Many of the units have been updated and are for rent. You can expect your monthly nut at the Mayfair to start at about $1,800 per month for a one bedroom.

If you are set on apartment life, another option to consider is the Park and 12 Apartment Homes. We really like the fenced in off-leash play area for your dog and that the entire facility has free Wi-Fi. And their website boasts an all-too-rare feature that shows you exact floor plans, along with their square footage and price and how many are available. We wish other properties would follow this lead. The apartments start at about $1,600 for a one bedroom and feature stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and dark mahogany cabinets. Some units have floor-to-ceiling windows, double sinks in the bathroom and a wraparound balcony. There is no pool but remember that Piedmont Park does have a brand-new aquatic center if that's your bag.
