NYC's One World Trade Center Tallest in U.S.A.
The soaring Manhattan skyscraper bests Chicago's Willis Tower.
Whether it's pizza, baseball or even real estate, the "best of" battleground between Chicago and New York City has long been heated territory. Now the Big Apple has another reason to boast that it is better than its Midwestern rival: Manhattan's One World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower and located at the site of Ground Zero, has beat the Windy City's Willis Tower as the tallest building in the United States. According to an official announcement made by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, when the downtown building, which has a soaring permanent spire, is completed next year it will rise a total of 1,776 feet compared to the Willis Tower's 1,451 feet. The determination was made through examination of design and construction drawings. Upon completion, One World Trade Center will be the third largest skyscraper in the world following The Burj Khalifa in Dubai and China's Shanghai Tower.
