Located outside of the Atlanta perimeter, Norcross, Ga. offers a wide selection of housing options, whether you are looking to rent or buy.

This city of 15,000 people has several large apartment communities that offer amenities ranging from gated entry to swimming pools to laundry service. Generally, rent starts at about $700 and goes up depending on the size of the apartments, location and amenities.

Wynfield Trace, a short drive from Interstates 285 and 85, offers such luxury amenities as fireplaces, a swimming pool, a clubhouse, fitness center and wireless Internet. Rents range from $960 for a one-bedroom to $1,256 for a three-bedroom unit.

The Reserve at Peachtree Corners has one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments ranging from about $700 to $1,000 per month. Amenities include a playground, swimming pool, clubhouse and fitness center. Its Jones Mill Road address has easy access to shopping and dining.

Other rental complexes worth checking out include Park Trace Apartments on Jones Mill Road, and the Retreat at Arc Way. Both communities include swimming pools, tennis courts and other amenities, and rent ranges from about $550 to $950 per month for a one- to three-bedroom unit.

If you are looking to purchase a home, you can start your search with area condominium communities. Nearby Peachtree Corners is home to Westchase Commons, which offers brick townhomes in the mid-200s range. Amenities include gated entry, a pool and cabana. Garages and basements are also available. Medlock Trace offers three-bedroom condos in the same price range. Unlike apartment communities, most condominiums in Norcross offer not swimming and tennis but easy access to shopping and restaurants. Other condo communities include Berkley Chase, Kendron Falls and Hampshire Place. You can also find condos in the lower price range, starting at about $30,000. Many of these properties are short sales and "as-is" sales.

You may find a wider selection if you decide to search for a single-family home. There are plenty of homes to choose from in all price ranges, particularly from $200,000 to $500,000. The median price for a home in Norcross, is about $120,000, with some short-sales available for under $100,000. Top subdivisions include Neely Farm, a swim and tennis community, and Amberfield in Peachtree Corners. If you're lucky, you may find an older home in Historic Norcross, but those opportunities are few and far between. There are some nice midcentury ranchers that have been upgraded, but the majority of available inventory in Norcross is newer construction.
