In December 2013 the Miami Art Museum will reopen in downtown as the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). With the opening of the Herzog & de Meuron-designed facility, and that of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science in 2015, Museum Park will be transformed into a central destination on Miami’s cultural map.
This is the future site of the focus gallery. The Museum began collecting in 1996 with a focus on art from the 20th and 21st centuries and the cultures of the Atlantic Rim (the Americas, Western Europe and Africa). Another essential aspect of the collection is the acquisition of works by artists from South Florida.
