New Bern, N.C. Shackleford Banks

A herd of feral horses known as "Bankers" roams Shackleford Banks, a barrier island about 50 miles southeast of New Bern. These horses are believed to be descendants of Spanish stallions that were brought to the Americas in the 16th century.
