Biscayne Boulevard's iconic Vagabond Motel is getting an extensive restoration by developer and historic preservationist Avra Jain. Her team is working overtime to complete the project in time to throw a swanky party during Art Basel Miami Beach in December. Historic design advocates hail the Vagabond as a prime example of 1950s and 1960s MiMo architectural design with characteristics like an open-air plan, jalousie windows and geometric designs.
The original studs from 1953 are still in good shape. The Vagabond Motel was originally designed in the MiMo style by B. Robert Swartburg, who also designed the Delano.
