Hearst Castle: Examples of Spanish Architecture

Spanish architecture incorporates many different sub-styles within its umbrella: Mission Revival, Spanish Colonial, Spanish Revival, Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Eclectic. Spanish style originated in Florida and California -- areas that were then-Spanish territories or had strong Spanish influences. Built in 1919, the Hearst Castle is Spanish Revival. It was donated to the state of California in 1957, at which point the estate and its considerable collection of art and antiques became open for public tours.
