Film Homes: Hollywood Loves Architect John Lautner
A look at his
famous, landmark homes featured in films, from the sexy James Bond pad in "Diamonds Are Forever" to the cult classic crib in "The Big Lebowski."
The El Rod
El Rod House: It's the most famous bachelor pad in the world, the Palm Springs spread that made Ian Fleming's James Bond the envy of married men and the object of female fantasy as portrayed by Sean Connery in the 1971 Diamonds Are Forever. The ultimate in cool, under the concrete domed roof are 8,900 square feet of Lautner design engineering: exotic woods, a curved wall, enormous rocks from the site used in the interior. And to top accusations of excess: remote controlled and retractable 25-foot glass "curtains" lift and transform the living room into an outdoor space.
