Spanish Colonial: Examples of Colonial Architecture

The Spanish Colonial architectural style was prominent in early North and South American Spanish colonies. It was characterized as being a mix between simple, solid construction with influences from the ornamentation in design exported by Spain. The Revival style became updated for a more modern time with key elements such as a single-level floor plan, smooth plaster and chimney finishes, low-pitched clay tile or flat roofs, and terra-cotta or cast-concrete ornaments.
