Best Stadiums, Queen Elizabeth Park in London, England
Robert McAlpine and Populous (formerly HOK Sport) were chosen to design and build the stadium for the 2012 Summer Games. Individual "paddles" containing LED lights were installed between each seat of the stadium, which were controlled via a central system to display video content wrapped around the stadium, allowing it to function as a giant video screen. The ArcelorMittal Orbit is a 114.5 metre (376 feet) tall sculpture and observation tower located outside the stadium. The tower was constructed to "distinguish the East London skyline."
