Beckett's Living Room
When it comes to design trends, Set Decorator Claire Kaufman says the
eclectic look offers flexibility in choosing furniture and accessories
that reflect a homeowner's personal taste. "It's all in the details," Kaufman says. "Don't ever buy a matching set of furniture. Mix it up. Different looks are good."
In Beckett's living room, a leather modern chair and two deco velvet fabric chairs offer a contrast in style.
says you can define rooms in a loft space by contrasting the flooring.
Here, the living room space is delineated by the placement of the rug.
Burlap drapes with wood blinds are an inexpensive window treatment,
echoed in the burlap lampshades.
One of the biggest mistakes
people make is not looking at spatial relationships. "When you've got a
small space, you don't want big things to overwhelm it," Kaufman says.
"Use a tape measure. Draw out a quick overview floor plan and take it
with you when you go shopping. That way, you'll know that a seven-foot
sofa will fit against your eight-foot wall."
