Beaux Arts Style: Examples of Neoclassical Architecture

This Southern mansion is a good example of a Neoclassical building constructed in the Beaux Arts style. Beaux Arts, which is French for "fine arts," started at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where many American architects studied. Like Neoclassical architecture, Beaux Arts buildings were built with symmetry, formal elegance and classic Greek and Roman designs in mind. The style is characterized by its massive size, stone exterior and lavish decoration.
