Webster House in Lincoln Park was the spot for the city's upwardly mobile. Built in 1919, the 14-story (formerly Webster Hotel) was a glittering grand dame of arches, columns and carved stone. And Walter Ahlschlager's design can still stop you with its plush scale; he built the Roxy Theater in New York and the famous Sheridan-Plaza Hotel in Uptown.
