At Home With Giuliana Rancic
Take a look inside the reality star's life at home.Giuliana Rancic sure knows how to keep herself busy. Between co-anchoring E! News next to Ryan Seacrest, starring in the hit reality show Giuliana & Bill, writing books and running a new women's lifestyle website, it's a wonder that she has any time to spend at her home in Chicago. Here she tells FrontDoor.com about her latest project, FabFitFun, home life as a child in Maryland and what makes home her favorite place to be, especially when her other half, entrepreneur Bill Rancic, is there with her.
What inspired you to start a women's lifestyle website?
FabFitFun has been something I've wanted to do for a while and I could not be more excited about the launch. Working in Hollywood can make anyone feel a little crazy, and I just wanted to create a place that promotes a happy, healthy lifestyle. We do have great beauty and fitness tips but FabFitFun is really just about feeling good from the inside out. It's fun, informative and a great way for me to connect with people.
How does your home life keep you happy and inspired?
I think at heart I am really a homebody. Although I do love fashion and entertainment, these days I am at my happiest when I am snuggled up with Rancic on the couch. It just feels comfortable and right. I also love lighting candles when I get home to make me feel happy and at ease. I used to spend so much money on candles but now I'm loving Glade's new limited edition collection. Sparkle of Spring smells incredible!
What neighborhood did you grow up in and what made it special?
I grew up at the end of a cul-de-sac in Bethesda, Md. It was your typical suburban neighborhood. All the kids would walk to and from the school bus together and after school we would spend our afternoons at the creek behind my house catching frogs and collecting insects. It was lovely.
Tell us about the first home you ever bought.
The first home Bill and I bought was a total gut in downtown Chicago. It was a nightmare inside that hadn't been remodeled in about 50 years. Bill is an incredible developer and transformed the home from the worst brownstone on the block to the best. He did such a great job in fact that someone knocked on our door shortly after we moved in and made us an amazing offer we couldn't refuse.
What style does your home have?
Our style is considered "transitional." It has elements of traditional style running through it, but much hipper and cooler than a typical traditional home. Bill builds our homes to be incredibly beautiful, yet totally liveable.
What is the most important room in a home for you?
The kitchen. I'm from a big Italian family and the kitchen was always the meeting place for family and friends. It still is.
What are your favorite features in your current home?
I'm a total techie at heart. I love our iPads we had built into the wall that control the whole house from the lights to the shades, alarm system, climate and of course TV and satellite radio.
What neighborhood do you live in now and why do you love it?
While I am in L.A. I have been staying in Marina Del Rey. I love the constant sunshine and how close we are to the beach. There is something really amazing about living by the water.
