Acworth was not only part of the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862, but it also has some delightful historic homes for sale.

Historic Acworth Charmer, Exterior

Georgia Elite Realty This Victorian-style home was built in 1901 and is located just off the historic Acworth Square.

One of the great things about living in (or relocating to) Metro Atlanta is that we have all these little historic towns pocketed all over the area. Located about 30 minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta is a small town called Acworth. When the Western and Atlantic Railroad started its Atlanta operations in 1845, Northcutt Station was the first northbound water stop on the new track. Joseph Gregg, a railroad engineer, renamed this stop after his hometown of Acworth, New Hampshire. Acworth was incorporated as a city in December, 1860 and prospered as a busy trade center.

During the Civil War, Gen. Sherman made Acworth his headquarters for several days. The town was spared the torch until November 1864; many homes and buildings were burned, but a few survived or were rebuilt in historic likeness.

We spotted a great home on the market that is located within walking distance of Acworth’s historic square.

Built in 1901, the five-bedroom, two-bath house sits on an acre of land and exudes loads of historic charm inside and out. The large front porch has spindle and gingerbread details that make for great curb appeal and the roof is under eight years old. All of the windows were replaced making for greater energy efficiency.

Inside, the 3,000-square-foot home could not be more charming, with many of the original details intact. There are pressed tin ceilings, exposed beams and boards, hardwood floors and plenty of wainscoting and crown moulding. The gourmet chef’s kitchen was completely renovated and has all stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a walk-in pantry and a center island – great for prep work and entertaining. The kitchen cabinets were also custom made for the home.

The master bedroom and en-suite bath are located on the main floor. We love the master bath which has a sparkling claw foot tub and separate shower. It also has six fireplaces with gas logs, a great room, a family room and a formal dining room.

Four other sizable bedrooms are located upstairs.

Listed at $240,000, the home is also located just a skip from Lake Acworth Beach. See more photos and the complete listing details at Georgia Elite Realty.
