Located by the governor’s mansion, you’ve probably seen the outside of the Pink Palace. Here’s your exclusive peek inside.

Situated on 3.5 acres down a long and stately drive is one of Atlanta’s most beautiful and breathtaking homes. Built for the Joseph D. Rhodes family of Rhodes Furniture, Buckhead’s Pink Palace was completed in 1926. Designed by Atlanta architects Neel Reid and Philip Shutze, the palatial 16,000-square-foot manor boasts six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms and is located next door to the Governor’s Mansion on West Paces Ferry. Reid and Shutze were the masterminds behind the Pink Castlethe Swan Coach House and many other historic structures in Georgia.

The dynamic duo took their inspiration from a small building in Venice, Italy, named the Scuola dei Tiraoro e Battiloro

The home was passed to the family of J. Mack Robinson, one of Atlanta’s richest residences. A noted philanthropist, Robinson made his fortune in the insurance business with his net worth topping out at $1 billion, according to Forbes.

Atlanta football star Larry Morris owned the home in the '70s and painted it beige though locals still call it “pink.” The last owners undertook extensive renovations that included structural, architectural and cosmetic changes. They installed an extensive Geo-thermal system and a large generator that is able to run the entire house.

The drawing room is one of the most amazing rooms in the home and is covered with original tapestries. Directly off of the drawing room is the morning room on the front right of the house. We love the large windows that look out on to the gardens, pool and sprawling estate. Just down the expansive and wide hall is the room known as the smoking or gentlemen’s room. It still has the original mantel and thick door casings that have been stripped and stained a deep, rich mahogany and would make a great study or library.

The kitchen was recently renovated and outfitted with top shelf appliances, a wine chiller and a large island perfect for party prep. The formal dining room has a Venice motif with hand painted murals, a fireplace and Old World wall sconces. The large windows look out onto the pool and patio. The pool house has two large bathrooms and a main room with a kitchenette.

The attic was completely finished out and acts as a separate apartment, perfect for teens, in-laws or an au pair. It has a modern kitchen and one bath and a half bath. We especially like the skylights and access to the rooftop patio.

The home is listed with Keller Williams. The current asking price is $7 million.
