If you're in the mood for a day of urban home exploration, you'll definitely want to check out the 14th Annual Inside Tribeca Loft Tour. The self-guided tour, which takes place Sunday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 5 p.m., allows visitors a peek inside some inspiring, thoughtfully designed Tribeca loft spaces.

A dozen apartments will be opening their doors to ticket-holders this year. In one home, see how the owners converted their loft into an airy abode with delightful whimsical touches for a family of seven. Another loft, owned by an architect, has been transformed into an "urban treehouse," with 15-foot ceilings, 11-foot windows and loads of green touches like reclaimed wood, recycled denim insulation, and counters constructed from recycled paper, glass and fly ash. (In fact, 80 percent of the materials that were "removed" during renovation were ultimately reused.)

Tickets are $60 in advance, available until midnight on Oct. 19 (purchase here). They go fast, but there will also be a small number of same-day tickets ($65) starting at 12:30 p.m. at Duane Park, which is located at the corner of Hudson and Duane Streets. Proceeds from the tour, which first began in 1999, will go toward the restoration of Duane Park — the second-oldest public park in the city. For the first time, proceeds will also go toward the upkeep of Bogardus Garden in Tribeca.
