Sale of Fort Lauderdale Mansion Almost Breaks Record
The sale of the beautiful waterfront estate located at 2400 Del Lago Drive in the Harbor Beach community almost broke the record for the most expensive home sold in Broward County, Fla. The price tag? A hefty $14.5 million.
If you count the entire package, including furnishings and a commission paid by the buyer, the price was a cool $17.5 million, which shatters the previous record sale of a home on 1 Isla Bahia Drive for $16.2 million.
Close, but no cigar.
The laws on the books state that when furniture and a home are sold together, the documentary stamp taxes only include the value of the real property, not the personal property.
Whether it's a record or not, the home is stunning.

"It's an amazing home," real estate agent Sheryl Hodor said to the Sun Sentinel. "I've been doing this for 25 years, and I've never seen a home this size feel so homey and have everything you wanted."
Sheryl and her partner/son, Troy Hotchkiss, aka The Power Team, are responsible for the sale. Sheryl sold the same property in 2008 for $8.5 million, but that home was torn down and a new mansion was constructed by luxury homebuilders with the Seppala Corporation.
The property features a separate guest house and staff quarters. his-and-hers offices, a state-of-the-art home theater, an outside kitchen and living room with a cozy fireplace, a custom-built pool and a wine cellar.
Residents of the Harbor Beach community have access to a private marina and deepwater lots. Within walking distance is the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, complete with world-class restaurants overlooking a gorgeous white-sand beach.
