Own a Rare City of Decatur Renovation
A small Cape Cod is now a sprawling two-story Tudor located within the desirable City of Decatur school district.
Living in the City of Decatur and Decatur are two totally different animals, just like living in Metro Atlanta versus the City of Atlanta. Unlike large metropolitan cities such as New York and Los Angeles, the outlying cities have their own mayors and city council members responsible for government and day-to-day life. The national spotlight shone upon this fact during “Atlanta’s” recent snow fiasco.
So, while someone says they live in Atlanta, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed governs them or that he is responsible for de-icing their bridges and roadways. The best way to get a clear picture of this is to take a look at a map of Atlanta.
Okay, but we’re talking about Decatur, which is not Atlanta. Decatur is in Dekalb County and the City of Decatur has its own mayor and its own school system, which is part of the International Baccalaureate school program, making it a very desirable place to live. In fact, though they keep it on the down low, many parents rent studio apartments in Decatur while maintaining other residences outside the city proper so that their child can attend a public Decatur City school such as Clairemont Elementary, Renfroe Middle and Decatur High School.

Consequently, City of Decatur real estate often comes at a premium. We recently came across a rare full renovation perfect for a large family. The 3,200-sqaure-foot Tudor style was once a small, one-story Cape Cod and now boasts five bedrooms, four full baths and one half. The large master bedroom affords plenty of privacy for mom and dad, and the en suite master bath features a double vanity with a separate garden soaker tub and shower. The white marble tile throughout the bathroom is immaculate.
The large kitchen has brand new Energy Star appliances, stone countertops and a breakfast bar/island. It opens up to a spacious family room that has a fireplace with gas logs. It has oodles of unique architectural features such as coffered ceilings and Arts and Crafts-style trim. We love the French doors that lead to an adjacent screened in porch with its stone stacked fireplace that can be enjoyed year-round. There’s also a separate dining room, library and reading nook, perfect for a sprawling family.
There’s a detached two-car garage with an unfinished garage apartment, perfect for Fonzie or visiting relatives. The yard is large and great for children and four-legged family members.
The listing agent is Travis Grubb of Keller Knapp Realty and you can see all the listing details here, but make sure to check out the gallery of exclusive photos. The home is located at 425 Superior Avenue and current asking price is $849,900.
