How Much House Does $150,000 Get You in Chicago?
In the first of our four-part bang-for-your-buck series, we've rounded up five Chicago homes for right around $150K.
Greater Grand Crossing. We got this listing from Brian
Durkin of Century 21 Galaxy Real Estate, the same agent that repped the Beverly home featured on an
episode of Sell This House. He's
put on the market a single family, 4-bed, 3-bath brick bungalow at 7148
South Wabash Avenue with an ad shouting “Exquisite, Luxury Rehab!” He's
right. The owners put in the time and you can see the money in the
1,500-square-foot home. The baths have spa body sprayers, there's a Jacuzzi,
mahogany-finished maple cabinets in the kitchen, granite countertops. This
south side area is a mixed-bag of deals, potential rehabs and mansions needing
a tune-up. Prices are all over the map. A comparable home over on 8300 South
Calument Ave. sold for $180,000 last September. But a 2,100-square-foot,
5-bed, 2-bath Prairie Avenue home is currently listed for $19,000. Nine-teen-thousand. Asking price: $149,900. Perk: Fluctuating
prices means negotiating power.
