Get One: Yummy Luxury Timber Lofts Prepping in South Loop

The Vesta Lofts in the Motor Row neighborhood opened for preleasing. But that's just a smidgen of the good news. Amid all the hubbub about luxury renovations, these 59 units fill a neglected market: true loft living.

JK Equities has it right. This intimate loft conversion of the 1913 Vesta Battery Company building at 125 East 21st Street, in a downtown orbit that includes Grant Park and Soldier Field, have the exposed brick walls and timber posts we yearn for, the 14- to 17-foot ceilings we can't live without, and the supersized windows that make you go hmmmm. According to Aaron Galvin of Luxury Living Chicago Realty, the brokerage company handling the leasing, this is the only "new" and "true" luxury loft building available downtown.  It's a sales pitch, we know. But the building has comfort and convenience in mind: high-speed internet (a no-brainer), on-site gym (necessary), en suite washer and dryer (we like). Decide for yourself if it has enough sass to lure you in.

The rents are comparable for the South Loop: One-bedroom, one-bath units between 671 to just under 800 square feet range from $1,400 to $1,700 per month; two-bed, two-baths at 987 to 1,175 square feet are quoted at $2,000 to $2,500 per month.
