Atlanta Midcentury Mod Goes Short Sale

With the price tag slashed by $60K, we had to ring the alarms for this rare opportunity.

Have you ever stalked a home either virtually or by drive-by? You bookmark the listing in your browser, just hoping that the price miraculously drops. Well, we’re banking that someone — probably one of them Hollywood types that constantly talks about the cool midcentury-modern inventory in Atlanta — is getting out their checkbook this weekend.

Originally priced at $350,000, 2488 Sunset Drive is going on short sale. The price is now $289,900. Built in 1957 the four-bedroom, three-bath house sits on a lush and wooded lot; somebody actually counted more than 250 species of plants on the property. High angled ceilings, large windows and hardwood floors throughout highlight the common areas. The kitchen was recently updated with slick granite countertops and a groovy wet bar was added. There are a couple of rough spaces in need of completion, including an addition slated as a large master suite, but overall the place looks solid and to be the deal of a lifetime.

It’s close to I-85, perhaps too close for some buyers’ tastes, but inside the perimeter and near good public and private schools. We found another listing on Sunset for $750,000 as well as other unique midcentury homes just a block over.

Listing agent Tom Sands told FrontDoor that he’s already shown the home several times since the price reduction and scheduled an open house this Sunday, August 4, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Check out the official listing on ReMax of Atlanta and forward to all the midcentury-modern lovers you know. This one will go quicker than you can say, "Le Corbusier loved blueberry pie."
