An Atlanta Home for Modern Lovers

Designed by award-winning architect Kemp Mooney is a four-bedroom, three-bath modern located on a quiet street in Buckhead.

Kemp Mooney is one of Atlanta’s treasured residents. A graduate of Yale University, Mooney is an award-winning architect, teacher, lecturer and artist and has been working in design for close to 60 years. A noted storyteller, his students still speak of his inspirational talks and his legendary lectures.

We think that owning a Buckhead home designed by Mooney would be like living in a piece of art. Nestled in the woods on Dawn Lane is a concrete, stucco tree house and a modern lover’s dream realized. Situated on over an acre, the home is secluded and private, yet convenient to all that Buckhead has to offer. It is also located in the desirable Morris Brown Elementary School and Sutton Middle School districts.

The 3,300-square modern was built in 1978 and has four bedrooms and three baths. The dining room enjoys a vaulted ceiling and expansive views of the mature hardwoods that surround the property. Off the dining room is a breakfast area surrounded by large windows and an adjacent enclosed patio. All those windows allow for plenty of natural light that accents the coziness of the living room and its fireplace.

It has a private in-law suite, a large deck, a groovy wall of glass bricks a la “Less Than Zero” and hip wet bar ready for entertaining. The floors are tiled and carpeted.

We’d like to see the kitchen updated and enlarged, but overall, we’d love to call Dawn Lane, a Mooney original, home.
