A Fairy-Tale Home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn
Locals call it the Gingerbread House, and it's now on the market for $11 million — down from $12 million.
One glance at the exterior of this 1917 estate in Bay Ridge and you’ll know exactly why it’s called the Gingerbread House. The Arts and Crafts-style home boasts a striking exterior that seems straight out of a fairy tale. "When it snows, it resembles the icing on a gingerbread house," says Douglas Elliman listing agent Rita van Straten. Not surprisingly, it’s been attracting curious passersby ever since the owners moved in during the 1980s. “The day we moved in, kids started ringing the bell to look inside,” owner Jerry Fishman told the New York Daily News.
The two-level house at 8200 Narrows Ave. has been on the market since 2009, but the Fishmans — the home’s fourth owners — recently slashed the price to $11 million (from $12 million). The home has plenty of amenities: six bedrooms, including a two-room guest suite and a master bedroom with five walk-in closets; three wraparound patios; landscaped gardens with a pond and fountain. The biggest draw, though, is the bounty of architectural details you won’t find anywhere else in the city: wood-paneled walls, stained-glass windows, handcrafted fireplaces, beamed ceilings and a “thatched” roof.
