Waterfront Wednesday: Coastal Home Overlooking Maine’s Nubble Lighthouse
This week’s Waterfront Wednesday just happens to coincide with a nautical holiday: National Lighthouse Day. Congress designated this holiday on Aug. 7, 1989, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Lighthouse Act, which gave the federal government control of the building and maintenance of these beacons of light. In honor of National Lighthouse Day, today’s cool house boasts some pretty unbeatable views of Maine’s Cape Neddick "Nubble" Lighthouse – one of the most photographed scenes in America, according to the listing.

In 1977, NASA included a photo of the Nubble in the Voyager spacecraft – along with photos of the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal – to teach potential intelligent life forms about our planet. The lighthouse was featured in the 1949 movie Lost Boundaries, and folk trio Nickel Creek filmed the music video for their song “The Lighthouse’s Tale” here.
With a one-of-a-kind location on Nubble Light Point, the custom home was carefully designed to take advantage of the panoramic views – and it shows. Nearly every room is lined with large windows that frame views of the lighthouse and the rocky Maine coast. Browse the photo gallery above to pick out your favorite room in the residence – ours is the cozy deck perched on the second floor.
