Tudor-Style Mansion With Museum-Quality Details

Believe it or not, this incredibly grand residence was just built in 1994. Set in the sought-after community of Hillsborough, Calif., the home was designed to capture the scale and spirit of English Tudor and Elizabethan country estates.

Location: Hillsborough, Calif.

Price: $38,500,000[

One of the West Coast's largest private residences, the 6.7-acre property encompasses a 36,000-square-foot main house, a separate guesthouse and numerous gardens. The heart of the home is the breathtaking 45-foot-high great hall, lined with 17th-century paneling from the historic Dyffryn House in Wales. Beyond this room, the entire residence is laced with museum-caliber details:  carved stone columns, antique bronze doors and more than 250 pieces of stained glass dating back as early as the 13th century.

Outside, the grounds are graced with ivy-draped arbors, terraced ponds and formal gardens with perfectly manicured boxwood hedges. There's also a sunken tennis court adjacent to the guesthouse, and a rooftop patio with amazing views of the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

This astounding home's hefty price tag doesn't surprise us, but it's a little out of our budget. Until we have a multi-millionaire among us on the Cool Houses Daily staff, we'll be eyeing FrontDoor's huge collection of Tudor-style house plans for a place that's more in our range.
