The House That Jack Black Built Goes on the Market
The comedic actor/musician and his wife showed remarkable taste and talent in remodeling a humble midcentury home into a masterpiece of modern architecture.
Everyone knows Jack
Black is a comedic genius, but who knew he had such good taste in architecture and design? The 1958 home that he and his wife, Tanya Haden, remodeled from top to bottom in 2006 is now on the market for $2,899,000. That’s really quite the reasonable price, considering the home’s size, architectural integrity and location, just off Mulholland Drive and west of Laurel Canyon.

"Jack Black and his wife have fascinating architectural style,” says realtor
Joe Babjian, who, along with Steven Walton of Rodeo Reality, is representing the property. “Structural beams can be seen throughout the estate, exposing the beautiful bone structure of the house. It's an exceptional,
modern home ideally located in the beautiful Hollywood Hills.”

Black bought the house in 2002 for the unusual price of $1,075,010. It was originally constructed in 1958. The comedian/musician and his wife Tanya Haden, an accomplished cellist, completed the extensive remodel in 2006.
The 3,906-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bath modern has high ceilings, concrete floors and walls of glass, yet the light that illuminates almost every room and the foliage surrounding the house make the interior seem warm and livable, rather than cold and industrial. In addition to the house, there’s a pool, an outdoor kitchen, several water features and dining/living pavilions on the 10,750-square foot-lot.
Black bought the house in 2002 for the unusual price of $1,075,010. After he and Haden did the extensive remodel, they sold it in 2007 for $1,210,000. Black, his wife and two children then moved up to a 6,516-square-foot home with seven
bedrooms and three
bathrooms in Los Feliz, which they bought from
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea for $5,965,000.
Black is currently filming a
Goosebumps movie, having recently finished voice work as the title character in
Kung Fu Panda 3. He’s also known for his comedy rock group, Tenacious D, as well as films like
King Kong, and perhaps most endearing of all,
School of Rock.
