Located in Wood River Valley, this 500+-acre ranch once owned by Hollywood legend Steve McQueen showcases the best scenery Hailey, Idaho, has to offer.

Today on Cool Houses Daily, we thought it fitting to highlight a home once owned by “The King of Cool.” Known as Pioneer Moon Ranch, the 500+-acre property served as an on-and-off residence for legendary actor Steve McQueen and his third wife, model Barbara Minty, until his death in 1980.

Nestled between two branches of the East Fork River, the property offers an incredibly private setting with spectacular views of the Pioneer Mountains. A nature lover’s paradise, the ranch borders the Sawtooth National Forest and offers immediate access to miles of hiking, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, mountain bike riding and backcountry skiing.

Much more rustic in McQueen’s day (when the property was known as “Crazy M Ranch”), the estate now includes a two-bedroom log home built in 1990 and remodeled in 2004, an entertaining annex and a four-car garage/workshop. Both the main house and the annex open to a well-manicured lawn with a fire pit perfect for warming up on chilly nights. Check it out in the gallery above.
