Real Housewife of Orange County Lists Her Green Mansion

Newbie Shannon Beador is selling the Newport Coast home that helped her land the show.

Rookie Orange County housewife Shannon Beador was introduced to the show by series veteran Heather Dubrow; they met via the architect that worked on both their houses. But putting sentimentality aside, the Beadors have just listed their 13,306-square-foot mansion in one of Newport's poshest gated communities for $13,498,000.

The lot was purchased in 2006, and the home was completed in 2012. For some reason, the couple has reduced the asking price by $2.5 million since first putting it on the market about a year ago.

Who knows why the couple is selling? It’s not that Beador isn’t house proud. On one episode of the show, she gave Dubrow a tour of it, emphasizing that she’s “very proud of the fact that I created the healthiest home possible for my family.” She described how the home was constructed and finished with non-toxic materials such as hardwood rather than MDF, how a HEPA air filtration system had been installed, that organic fabrics and materials were used throughout and that there is no fiberglass insulation.

The home doesn’t even have Wi-Fi, because, “that produces electromagnetic radiation,” according to Beador. For the same reason, she doesn’t allow her children to carry cell phones.

What the home does have is seven bedrooms, eight full baths and five partial baths, on .67 acres. It’s described by listing agent John Cain of Sotheby’s International Realty as “reminiscent of European country manors and legacy East Coast mansions.”  That’s a distinctive choice on the Southern California coast, where Spanish and modern architecture tend to rule the day.

The house itself spans four levels, with an elevator connecting them. Among its unique features are two side-by-side chef’s kitchens, an indoor three-point regulation basketball court and fitness center, a 12-recliner home theater with stadium seating and a climate-controlled wine cellar. The expansive upper floor master suite features a bedroom and sitting room, two terraces, a spacious bathroom with a spa tub, his-and-hers walk-in closets and a private office.

Other distinctive features on the property include a guesthouse, resort-like grounds with a pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, putting green, formal gardens and a subterranean garage that can accommodate up to 11 cars.

It will be interesting to see if the sale of this house, and the purchase or construction of a new house, will be featured on the series in the future. The Beadors recently raised viewers' eyebrows when the husband asked his wife to consider a little personal reconstruction.
