Private Island Paradise
Johnny Depp, Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio. What do these stars have in common? They're all the proud owners of private islands. If you want to join their ranks, today's property is for you.
Location: Bokeelia, Fla.
Listed By: Klaus Lang and Jennifer Calenda of Michael Saunders & Company
Known as Little Bokeelia Island, this piece of paradise off the coast of Florida isn't terribly far from Sarasota or Naples, but it feels like another world -- a snapshot of Old Florida splendor. The $29.5 million price tag -- while not exactly pocket change -- buys an amazing list of amenities: a pool, a tennis court, pristine beaches, lagoons and nature trails, all spread over more than 100 acres.
The focal point of the island is the original manor house. Built in the 1920s for inventor Charles Burgess (founder of a battery company that later became Duracell) this Spanish-style villa has been restored and expanded by its current owner. Just a short stroll away, there's a gathering pavilion, a guest retreat, a cascading rock waterfall, a koi pond and a swimming pool.
Though Fort Lauderdale International Airport is just an hour away, we can't think of any reason to ever leave Little Bookelia Island, can you? Browse the photos below to be transported to this tropical haven.
