Oprah's Custom Water Tower Condo Lists for $7.75 Million
The Big O's performance in 'The Butler' has Hollywood buzzing. But is the Diva leaving Chicago in the dust?
Expect to pay $9,000 monthly homeowner association fees for Winfrey's 9,625-square-foot duplex in the 74-story skyscraper. And taxes in 2012 rounded the bend of $71,000 for the 4-bed, 5-bath Magnificent Mile unit with north, south and east views. Pamela Sage of Baird & Warner is repping the diva's Pearson Street property.
The 59-year-old Winfrey, who scored SAG and BAFTA best supporting actress nods for her turn as Gloria Gaines in The Butler has owned a total of four units in the tony high-rise, including one on the 57th floor she grabbed in 1985 as her talk show dynasty began its ascent, and three spaces on the 56th floor, bought separately, with a combined sticker price over $3 million. (For comparison, there's currently a 3-bed, 3-bath in the building listed for $1.6 million.)
Winfrey moved her pared-down talk show to Los Angeles in 2011 and it looks as if she's signaling a true Chicago farewell. Last October, she announced plans to keep a smaller (modest?) home in the city. Check. And the real estate savvy Big O hired an exploratory team to field offers for her four-campus Harpo Studios compound in the West Loop. Check. No stranger to paparazzi, in 2012 she gave the boot to a 4,600-square-foot East Lake Shore Drive co-op she refused to occupy, selling at a $2.85 million loss because people could see into the space.
Are these moves a map of her Chicago exit plan?
