Of Course This Whimsical Mansion Has a Hollywood Pedigree
An Emmy winner edited his ideal storybook home, complete with the ultimate indulgences like a gift wrapping room and six fireplaces.
Marco Zappia, an Emmy-winning TV editor who worked on shows like All in the Family, Hee Haw, 8 Simple Rules and Home Improvement, and passed away late last year, left behind a true residential legacy. He planned every intricate detail of his ideal Burbank dream home for years before building it in 1998. Now, the famed English Tudor/French Normandy storybook estate is available for $2.199 million, which is a relative bargain, considering what that price includes.
It’s not that the home measures 7,850 square feet and has five bedrooms and six baths. It’s more about the intricately detailed extra luxuries, like a gift wrapping/craft room with a hand-laid tile island, six fireplaces, an elevator and a master suite with a breakfast bar. All are ornately styled and decorated to the nines.

Other unique features include a finished basement with a media room, a billiard room designed as a wine cellar, playroom, gym, the aforementioned gift wrapping room, an office and a bar. A separate upper level area has French doors opening onto an expansive patio featuring a castle-themed fireplace. All this is augmented by four separately operated air conditioning units, a central vacuum, concealed fire sprinklers and an extensive security system.
There are masses of ornate brickwork, stained-glass windows and gingerbread woodwork throughout. The striking entry features marble flooring and a Schonbek crystal chandelier. The kitchen, while including Viking and Sub-Zero appliances, still has an Old World feel, and opens to a brightly colored breakfast room with a fireplace and soaring ceilings.Situated on a little over a quarter of an acre in one of Burbank’s best neighborhoods, studio close and move-in ready, it’s the kind of place a buyer either snaps up quickly or shakes their head at and drives right by. There’s no disputing, however, that the right entertaining family would have a lot of fun here.
