Home Robots That Love You, Truly
We get it. You left the theater after watching Joaquin Phoenix in 'Her' thinking: "I want one." We can't promise Scarlett Johannson, but here's a little home tech that'll show you some love.
It’s geek-love-at-first-sight, or “Hello. I’m here,” in the case of Spike Jonze’s Her, as Joaquin Phoenix falls for the voluptuous voice of Scarlett Johansson’s “Samantha,” the first artificially intelligent operation system for his phone. Although Jonze pitches his chipset-to-human love story in a familiar yet distant future, it’s not as weird as it sounds (although Phoenix’s character does edge close when he admits Samantha is better company and more fun (!) than anyone else). But come on. We’re hooked on our devices, have been for decades, and are always looking for better, faster, smarter.
Since we already live in a connected world (and our home is really the last frontier) Jonze’s film inspired us to compile a teaser of cool home robots that are every bit as remarkable for their convenience and efficiency as their sleek design. From remote-controlled Android stoves to stuffed bears that monitor your kids to home surveillance bots and a couple of next generation products that are promising but buggy, these plug-and-play home robots will tickle the geek within.
And we assure you: this type of love is perfectly normal.
