Frank Lloyd Wright's Furbeck House for Sale
Frank Lloyd Wright fanatics, take note: One of the master architect's transitional-style homes is on the market for under $1 million.
Location: Oak Park, Ill.
Listed By: Jan Kerr of Gloor Realty
Built in 1897 for Chicago electrical contractor George W. Furbeck, the residence was designed during Wright's three-year period of experimentation, which eventually resulted in his iconic prairie style. Clad in chamfered brick (or bricks that are beveled on each edge), the home's exterior features two octagonal towers and a spacious sun porch. In 1920, the front porch was enclosed, and the third-floor dormer was extended.
While the home's exterior has seen a few alterations, the interior remains mostly unchanged from when it was first completed. Inside, open living areas are accented with quartersawn oak woodwork and art glass windows in simple geometric designs. While its historic character remains intact, the home has been updated with new air conditioning, electric and authentic paint colors.
