From the BBC series Doctor Who, the TARDIS and its impossibly spacious interior.

Tomorrow, Doctor Who fans will be tuning in to The Day of the Doctor, the 50th-anniversary episode of the BBC series that will broadcast simultaneously in several countries. For non-Whovians, a little background: The show follows an alien Time Lord known as The Doctor, who travels through time and explores the universe in his TARDIS – a roomy spaceship disguised as a rather small British police box.

Spaces that are impossibly large on the inside aren’t an uncommon device in sci-fi and fantasy – see also: the wardrobe that leads to Narnia and the Weasleys’ camping tent in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. For sci-fi/fantasy fans everywhere, we’ve found the real-life equivalent of the TARDIS and other spaces with deceptive square footage. Check out these five surprisingly spacious houses where you can totally pretend to be a Time Lord (or a wizard or whathaveyou).
