It’s hard to believe that after nine seasons, CBS’s How I Met Your Mother has reached its final episode. During a recent TV Critics Press Tour visit to the set, talked to Alyson Hannigan, who plays Lily Aldrin on the popular sitcom, about her favorite room and pieces on set, plus how she likes to spend her time at home.

Also known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and American Pie, the actress has a new CBS pilot, More Time with Family, which is being executive produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Her Favorite Room on the HIMYM Set

Hannigan has fond memories of many rooms on set, but her very favorite has been the apartment shared by Lily (Hannigan), Marshall (Jason Segel) and Ted (Josh Radnor) for several seasons of the show. “I like the apartment because it's always just the cast and not a lot of extras, and it's more quaint. I like that, because then you can really just talk. And I know Josh likes the breakfast scenes in the apartment because you roll out of bed and put on pajamas. It's a good day when you just come to work and put pajamas on!” she quipped.

What She Hopes to Take Home From the Set

While Hannigan would love to keep a few set items for her home, she expects to face tough competition from executive producer/co-creator Carter Bays. “That's a little touchy because the last time we talked about this, I realized Carter is actually taking everything,” she joked. “I really want the red telephone booth [from the apartment], but he wants the whole wall for his basement. I may just have to put ‘Property of Alyson Hannigan’ on the bottom of it so I can take it home!”

Getting Crafty at Home

Describing her home as “comfortable, yet not quite Bohemian,” Hannigan enjoys crafting with her two children, Satyana and Keeva, when she’s not on set. “My oldest especially loves to craft during Valentine’s Day, her favorite holiday, and we had a lot of Valentine’s decorations she made throughout the house,” she said.

At nearly five years old, Hannigan said her older daughter Satyana has “such a bright, fun personality” – and, now, she has a bedroom to match. “I have a bunch of ribbons – I buy way too many! – and the other night, I got a lot that she picked out,” she said. “Her dresser is white with white little knobs. And we just cut the ribbons up and tied them around the knobs to make the dresser look much more colorful. It really gave the dresser more of a pop.”

After the show wraps, Hannigan is planning a big crafts project at home with her children. “During the holidays, we were at an amazing fabrics store in Seattle. My daughter picked out a bunch of fabrics, which was fun,” she said. “You can take fabric and starch and make shapes on the walls. We can make balloons or flowers and put them all over her walls.”
