7 Houses Where You Can Pretend You Live in Downton Abbey
They’re not quite as grand as Downton, but these historic homes for sale across America are quite fit for a Lord or a Lady nonetheless.
Downton Abbey fans: With season 4 of the hugely popular British period drama premiering this Sunday, it’s almost time to see how the Crawley family adapts to the changes of the 1920s, learn if Lady Mary will find happiness again, and – as always – swoon over the incredible estate for which the show is named.
The real Downton Abbey is Highclere Castle, the Jacobethan-style mansion in Hampshire, England, where the show is filmed. The estate encompasses more than 1,000 acres – making it larger than New York’s Central Park – and boasts at least 50 bedrooms. (Lady Carnarvon, the home’s current occupant, doesn’t know how many rooms there are in total.) According to an article by TIME.com, the castle could be worth around 150 million British pounds if it were sold today.
Admittedly, finding a home quite so grand or historic in the United States is tough, but we were up for the challenge. If you’ve got Downton envy, check out seven homes for sale across America where you can live like an aristocrat.
