6 Idol-Worthy Homes
Not only will tonight’s season 12 premiere of American Idol showcase a new crop of talented singers vying to become the next pop music sensation, it will also debut an (almost) all-new panel of judges. Nostalgic for seasons past, we decided to take a walk down Idol memory lane by checking out the homes of former judges and contestants. Join us, won’t you?
One of the show’s original three judges, singer and choreographer Paula Abdul spent eight seasons on American Idol. Since moving on from the show, Abdul has also moved on from her Mediterranean-style mansion in Sherman Oaks. Sold in March 2012, the home’s highlights include a gourmet kitchen, a two-story entryway with a grand double staircase and a large outdoor entertaining area.

A singer-songwriter who has collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Pink, Kelly Clarkson and other artists, Kara DioGuardi became the fourth judge on seasons 8 and 9 of Idol. As impressive as her extensive songwriting catalogue, DioGuardi’s mountain- and city-view mansion in Studio City sold for $6.3 million in December 2012.

TV personality Ellen DeGeneres spent just one season on the Idol judging panel, saying the show “didn’t feel like the right fit for me.” In May 2012, she also decided her three-acre compound in Beverly Hills wasn’t the right fit, selling it to none other than American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. The three-acre property includes a 9,200-square-foot main house, multiple guesthouses, lush gardens and a tranquil pond.

In 2005, the singer purchased this newly constructed home in Durham, N.C. — just half an hour from his hometown of Raleigh. Set on six wooded acres, the residence features a theater, a recreation room and secluded outdoor entertaining areas.
