42nd Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Opens in NYC
Twenty-two designers were invited to make over the rooms of a Madison Avenue mansion. Check out their bold, extravagant work.
The show, which is open to the public through May 29, takes place this year at the Villard Houses — a lovely landmarked midtown mansion that was built as six townhouses in the early 1880s. Twenty-two of the country's top decorators and design firms were each allotted a room to do with as they please, resulting in strokes of design genius. Alexa Hampton teamed up with painter Chuck Fischer to design a canvas wallpaper inspired by Mudejar tiles. Carrier and Company marbleized their wallpaper in gold. Villalobos Desio came up with a standout herringbone leather floor. Bold blue hues and gold palettes were especially popular this year, as you'll see in our gallery below.
The Kips Bay Decorator Show House is located at 457 Madison Avenue (at 51st Street). Admission is $35, with proceeds going to the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. Visit the website for more information.
