Contract Pending on Extraordinarily Rare "Disney" Home

If the terms are accepted, a Georgia family will be waking up in a dream home with cash to spare.

Back in April, we told you all about an extraordinary and unique property located in historic Newnan, Ga. Built in 1842, the 5,500-square-foot structure’s exterior is so eye-catching that location scouts from Disney’s 2012 The Odd Life of Timothy Green "cast” it as the Crudstaff Mansion & Pencil Museum. The home was put on the market in 2008 after the owners painstakingly renovated it from top to bottom with an asking price of $1,499,000 or $274 per square foot and 154% over its sale price in 2000. The four-bedroom, five-bath home sits on 2.5 acres that also includes a three-bedroom, two-bath carriage house with a pool.

It was pulled from the MLS on several occasions and when we last checked in the price tag was slashed to $650,000. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that in October an offer was made on the house after another $200,000 price reduction. That’s about $80 a square foot and we speculate it was a short sale. The sale is now pending and we’re eager to see how the real estate market in this area will change and are keeping a close watch. Construction on Pinewood Studios in neighboring Fayette County is well underway and is scheduled to open in 2014. We’ll keep you posted as these chance of lifetime real estate finds catch our eye.
