As of the census of 2000, there were 1,924 people, 708 households, and 536 families residing in the city. The population density was 476.2/km² (1,230.5/mi²). There were 913 housing units at an average density of 226.0/km² (583.9/mi²). The raciial makeup of the city was 86.85% White (U.S. Census), 6.91% African American (U.S. Census), 0.57% Native American (U.S. Census), 0.31% Asian (U.S. Census), 4.52% from Race (United States Census), and 0.83% from two or more races. Hispanic (U.S. Census) or Latino (U.S. Census) of any race were 11.12% of the population.
