As of the census of 2000, there were 5,441 people, 1,726 households, and 1,439 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 998.8 people per square mile (385.5/km²). There were 1,811 housing units at an average density of 332.4/sq mi (128.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 63.70% White (U.S. Census), 20.25% African American (U.S. Census), 0.53% Native American (U.S. Census), 12.20% Asian (U.S. Census), 1.58% from Race (United States Census), and 1.73% from two or more races. Hispanic (U.S. Census) or Latino (U.S. Census) of any race were 4.80% of the population.

There were 1,726 households out of which 38.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.8% were Marriage living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.6% were non-families. 13.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
