After a couple of years on and off the market, the prolific actor and producer finally accepts an offer on his beloved family home.

At last — a buyer has come along! Mark Wahlberg has had his 11,500-square-foot contemporary Mediterranean estate on and off the market since 2011, and has finally decided to let it go for $12.995 million. That’s about a million less than what he originally listed it for two years ago.

Could it be that he was willing to take the hit because the 33,000-square-foot home he’s rumored to be building on a large partial of land in nearby Beverly Park is finally ready?

The almost $13 million the actor and producer finally accepted may sound like a king’s ransom, but the efforts and memories the home carries for the Wahlbergs are priceless. “It’s the first house I’ve ever owned and I put a ton of work into making it a home for our family,” Wahlberg said. “It has a very warm, inviting feeling and it’s also perfect for entertaining.” Wahlberg and his wife, fashion model Rhea Durham, have four children.

Many a good time was doubtless had on the sports court, putting green, and pool complete with a waterfall, cabanas and a grotto. They all have breathtaking canyon views. “You really feel secluded and the view looks out across the canyon — I’ve been known to hit golf balls into it from my putting green,” Wahlberg said. “It’s remarkably peaceful and relaxing, but still convenient to the city. And the sunsets are amazing.”

Even though new digs three times the size are reported to be on the horizon, you can bet that Wahlberg will especially miss his 2,500-square-foot detached gym, complete with a full-size boxing ring. “Exercise is a big part of my life, so the gym is a great space where I can really push myself,” Wahlberg noted. “It has every piece of equipment you’d find in a regular gym, but it's completely private.”

This is the space where he trained for the film, The Fighter, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Of course, the indoor living spaces are equally impressive, and show excellent taste in design. There are elegant and spacious living and dining rooms, a gourmet chef’s kitchen, a movie screening room (which is another of Wahlberg’s favorites), and a master suite with separate his-and-hers bathrooms. There’s also a guesthouse with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Wahlberg won’t have a lot of time to work on the logistics of the sale or move, as awards campaigns for two of his films are just about to gear up. The first is Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, which Wahlberg executive-produced. The next is Lone Survivor, in which he stars as Marcus Luttrell of SEAL Team 10, which was charged with capturing or killing notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shahd. It’s slated to open in December.

The estate was presented by Hilton & Highland/Christie's International Real Estate.
