After Twilight Comes the Big Bang

Now that things are nicely wrapped up between Edward and Bella, Dr. Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli) and his ex-wife Jennie Garth have decided to move on, selling their Toluca Lake estate to another showbiz luminary and adding more star dust to the property’s long Hollywood pedigree.

Bill Prady, co-creator of The Big Bang Theory, purchased the home for a reported $3.99 million. Facinelli and Garth had purchased the home in 2005 for $2,850,020, according to public record. Some years prior to that, country singer and actor Tex Ritter owned the property, and his son, the late John Ritter, spent part of his childhood there.

The house was designed by L.A. favorite Paul Williams, and completed in 1937. It still retains his signature touches like crown moldings, a crescent-shaped staircase and outstanding architectural detailing. And yet …

It has been seamlessly enlarged and renovated, so that it now totals about 8,416 square feet, has six bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. The lot is close to half an acre in size, located in a stately community that’s just minutes away from studios like Disney, ABC, NBC and Warner Bros., as well as a very posh country club. For this reason, the area is very popular among Hollywood types.

Another attractive feature of the estate is that it is very private, with mature foliage and a sturdy surrounding wall with a gated entry, making it paparazzi free. Just past the gate is a large motor court and a five car garage, which accommodates plenty of party guests.

Friends and family can stay in the two-room guest suite with a kitchen, which is attached to the house. There are also also private maid’s quarters. When everyone wants to get together, they can gather in the formal living and dining rooms, the bar room or family/game room.

Outside, colorful, traditional landscaping surrounds a pool with a waterfall and spa, an outdoor kitchen/barbecue area, a pavilion and a children’s playground.

More private areas include two master suites, one with his-and-hers walk-in closets and a sitting room with fireplace, a safe room,  a gym and a spa-like bathroom. Nearby, there’s a media room/playroom and his-and-hers offices. One would hardly ever need to go downstairs.

It’s unclear where Facinelli or Garth will be landing after selling the home — perhaps Facinelli will be spending more time back east, where he continues in his roll as Dr. Fitch Cooper on the Showtime hit series Nurse Jackie.

It’s likely Garth will remain on the West Coast, close to her mother, a Realtor who helped sell the house, and most of her professional projects. After kicking off her career with Beverly Hills, 90210 and continuing it with shows like What I Like About You, 90210 and Community, Garth has been doing a number of TV movies, including the upcoming, Home Again.

The property was represented by Andrew Manning of Prudential California Realty, Sherman Oaks, and Garth’s mother Carolyn Garth of Sotheby’s International Realty, Los Olivos.
