In Pittsburgh, Steeler fans take team pride very seriously.
What makes a city great for sports fans? A winning home team is nice, but there's more to it than that, including historic professional franchises, a strong sense of community and competition among fans, the global appeal of athletes and access to international sporting events. So if you've got a penchant for sport, consider living in one of FrontDoor's 10 Great Places for Sports Fans:
Pittsburgh
Two words: "Steeler Nation."
The National Football League's Steelers are known to sell out games and command a long season-ticket waiting list. Fans are so loyal that many travel to the team's away games to cheer them on, creating a sea of black and gold no matter what stadium it is.
The original "City of Champions" (so dubbed for the multiple championships won by the Steelers and Major League Baseball's Pirates in the '70s) seems to be reviving its reputation after a stellar 2009, with the Steelers winning Super Bowl XLIII and the National Hockey League's Penguins taking home the Stanley Cup.
The area's universities also offer a variety of collegiate sporting events.
