Including South Valley Stream, New York, and North Valley Stream, New York the total population is 57,795 as of the 2000 census.

The Incorporated Village of Valley Stream is inside the southwest part of the Town of Hempstead, New York along the border with Queens.

The village is served by the Long Island Rail Road at the Valley Stream (LIRR station) station, located at Sunrise Highway and Franklin Avenue.
